Service Day on Saturday 7 July 2018 at Beacon Hill Country Park. (Global) Service Day this year was organised on Saturday 7 July, at the Beacon Hill Country Park just outside Loughborough, in the village of Woodhouse Eaves. Beacon Hill takes its name from its history as a signalling point. Many times over the centuries a beacon has been lit near the summit to give warning or commemorate an important national event. During the Second World War the site was occupied by the Ministry of Defence and was used for training operations and the storage of munitions. In 1947, the site was purchased by Leicestershire County Council to protect its value as a public open space. In the early 1970s Beacon Hill was designated as a Country Park and has now become one of the premier visitor attractions in Leicestershire at the gateway of the National Forest. Our day started early as volunteers arrived at the site to set it up for us. Tables & chairs were placed around the area, and gazebos were erected at various points to get protection from the sun. Swami had graced us with wonderful weather for the day! Guest began to arrive by 11:00 and were lovingly served refreshments. This was followed by a pleasant walk around the park. Lunch was served and thoroughly enjoyed by our guests & volunteers! Then there was time for everyone to join in the various activities organised - there were many different craft activities for those who wanted to try out their creativity skills, and antakshari for those who wanted something different! Bingo session was a joyful occasion for everyone, with prizes for the winners. Scones & cream were served, with ice cream! Wonderful to see the joy on everyone's faces! There was also time for birthday greetings - a very special birthday treat for Nalin! Thank you to Swami for a wonderful day - all guests and volunteers had a lovely day out.
