Maha Shivratri celebrations on Friday 12 February 2010
at Ram Mandir

Maha Shivratri is a Hindu festival celebrated every year in reverence of Lord Shiva. Shivaratri literally means the great night of Shiva or the night of Shiva. It is celebrated every year on the 13th night/14th day of the Maagha or Phalguna month of the Hindu calendar.

This year, Maha Shivratri was celebrated on Friday 12 February, with lovely Shiv Bhajans creating a wonderful spiritual atmosphere. Good vibrations felt by all devotees who attended the bhajans.

Programme for the evening was:

6.00 pm 7.45 pm              Hall/Altar Set up

7.45 pm 7.55 pm              People to be seated; Bhajan team to be in place

7.55 pm 8.00 pm              Introduction with house rules/health & safety/fire exits

8.00 pm 8.15 pm              3 Omkars

                                      Gayatri Mantra

                                      Ganapathi Prarthna

                                      Rudram (1st Anuvaka)

8:15 pm 8:45 pm             Bhajans

8.45 pm 9.15 pm             Ashtakams (Lingam Puja starts with just the couple(s) sitting at the front)

9:15 pm 10:15 pm           Group Chanting and Abhishekam (all people join in the Abhishekam)

10.15 pm - 11.50 pm          Bhajans

11.50 pm 12.00 am          Ending prayers, Aarti, Vibhuti
